It’s a brand new year and most people want to look and feel there best. What was your first workout in 2015? For me, my first workout wasn’t until today (January 6th).
My gym was closed for 2 weeks over the Christmas due to renovation over the holidays. I allowed myself to completely chill out and do no exercise until the gym re-opened in the new year.
I gave myself permission binge on crap like, sweets, chocolate, ice-cream, pizza, burgers, chips and beer without worrying about counting calories so I can stay in shape.
I even smoked a cigar! 🙂 Christmas wouldn’t be complete without smoking a Henri Winterman cigar. And I’m not actually a smoker.
I was pretty strict with my diet for most of 2014 so I didn’t mind dabbling in my favorite junk food for once.
..and it felt pretty good to be honest.
[su_quote cite=”Justin Kavanagh”]I worked my butt off in that gym all year round, so I deserve to indulge in a little comfort eating.[/su_quote]
Most people do around Christmas anyway!
I remember weighing myself on the 23rd of December and I was at 189 pounds, and when I weighed myself today, I was at 185 pounds. I can’t imagine how I lost weight instead of gaining weight. But can’t complain!
After a two week break from the gym my plan was to ease into my workout without pushing myself too hard in the beginning.
It’s still early days and my goal is to increase strength and size for the next 6-8 months.
I decide to trains legs today, so I begin my first workout by doing squats. There are lots of reasons why you should squat and I do them to increase muscle and strength.
My First Workout In 2015
Warm up squats – 2 Sets of 10 (50kgs)
Barbell Full Squat
- 5 Sets of 5 Reps @ 70 kgs
- 5 Sets of 5 Reps @ 80 kgs
- 5 Sets of 5 Reps @ 90 kgs
- 5 Sets of 5 Reps @ 100 kgs
- 4 Sets of 10 Reps @ 250 kgs
Standing Dumbbell Calf Raise (20 kgs Dumbbell)
- 3 Sets of 20 Reps
Calf Press on the Leg Press
- 3 Sets of 20 Reps
So that was my workout for today and it felt pretty darn good. Tomorrow I’ll look forward to my chest and triceps workout.
What was your first workout in 2015? Was your gym busy or still the same as before?
Or maybe you have plans to start soon. That’s fine! But whatever you do don’t procrastinate. We all know how easy it is to fall into a comfort zone and how difficult it is to get out it.
Trust me, no matter what exercise you plan on doing, you will feel a lot better once you start. Don’t just work out for one or two months, do it for the entire year. It will change your life for the better.
